老外说“apples and oranges”可不是“苹果和橙子”！真正的意思差远了!
最近，普特君在重刷《老友记》的时候，注意到一个有趣的表达：apples and oranges
字面看，“apples and oranges”的意思是“苹果和橙子”，但其实没有那么简单。apples and oranges是一个使用频率非常高的俚语，根据其英英释义to compare things that are very different，可以看出apples and oranges用来形容“两件毫不相干，无法比较的事物”，类似中文里面的“风马牛不相及”，常见于美式口语。

他们确实是迥然不同。
除了apples and oranges，apple还有很多地道用法：
bad apple
在美国俚语中，“bad apple”指散布坏影响的人；(带坏好人的)坏家伙；害群之马。
All of the students are well behaved apart from one bad apple who likes to stir up trouble in the class.
全班学生都表现得很好，除了一个害群之马总爱在班里惹是生非。
apple of (one’s) eye
这里的“apple”其实指的是“瞳孔”，眼睛里最珍贵的东西。所以这个表达用来形容极珍爱之物。
“apple of (one’s) eye”来自《圣经·诗篇》第十七篇第八节：“求你保护我，如同保护眼中的瞳孔。” 之后人们就用“apple of (one’s) eye”表示“掌上明珠”。

Big Apple
Big Apple是美国纽约市的别称。是美国最大都市及第一大港，也是世界第一大都市。

这个表达非常有趣，大家可千万别根据字面理解成“亚当的苹果”，其真正的意思是喉结。

lemon
我们都知道lemon最常见的意思是柠檬，但除此之外，它还有其他的解释。
①lemon：an artifact (especially an automobile) that is defective or unsatisfactory
lemon的一种英语释义是：有缺陷或不令人满意的人工制品（尤指汽车）
lemon可以用来表示残次商品，最初是用于描述汽车的。上世纪50年代，某个广告商用lemon来指代某问题车型，随后这种说法普及开来，并且不仅限于描述汽车。如果遇到质量有问题或者说得好听但实际没有价值的东西，都可以说lemon。比如“My phone is a lemon”就表示“这手机不咋地/这手机不好用”。
He took a little test drive and agreed the car was a lemon.
他试驾了一下，也认为这车不行。

②lemon：a stupid person
lemon的另一种英语释义是：笨蛋

peach
讨人喜欢的人，好人

second banana
second banana 是一个常见的美国俚语，指的是“配角；次要人物；副手，第二把手”
我不想当配角。
I always play second banana to her.
我总是做她的后补。
top banana
top banana指的是“主要人物；大老板；最好的演员或重要的官员”，可与 “second banana” 对比学习。
他是这家公司的大老板。
go bananas
根据其英英释义to become extremely angry or excited，该短语意为“发疯、发狂；情绪失控”。
亚当森会被这个气疯的。
banana skin
字面意思为“香蕉皮”。但如果不小心踩到香蕉皮滑倒，会是一件非常尴尬的事情，所以这个短语的引申义为“令人尴尬的事情；出洋相”，等同于“banana peel”。
