Lately, an interesting saying goes that people can live longer if they are mothers of twins. In comparison, not only do mothers of twins get twice the bundle of joy but also they are healthier than other mothers. Seemingly, it sounds like a brilliant idea to be a mother of twins!
近来，有一个有趣的说法：双胎胞的母亲寿命更长。对比而言，双胞胎母亲不仅能够享受到双份快乐，而且会比其他母亲更健康。

Commonly, pregnant mothers of twins are regarded as high-risk groups. Firstly, expectant twins tend to more cumbersome than others. Secondly, they are liable to diseases such as pregnancy diabetes. Lastly, they have to do more extra work in order to bring up their children.
一般说来，双胞胎准妈妈被当作高危人群。第一，因为肚子里有两个所以显得更笨重。第二，双胞胎妈妈更容易患病例如妊娠糖尿病。最后，要养育双胞胎长大成人他们的妈妈们要付出更多更多。

Throughout history, twins have provoked mixed and tangled feelings. Sometimes they were seen as a curse—an unwanted burden on a family’s resources. Especially, the Queen gave birth to twin sons and one would be killed for the future emperor throne war. Sometimes, they were viewed as heavenly blessing, or even as a sign of their super daddy and mummy.

Obviously, robust women can afford more of both than frail one. And what better way to convince the roust than by bearing more than one child at one time? According to the related research, mothers of twins will not only be of greater reproductive success, they will also be healthier than those who give birth one.

Certainly, having twins automatically enhances a mother’s lifelong fertility by one. At the meanwhile, it is related to their pregnancy times. Because there are not many mothers who have twins more than once.

Based on the relevant research, mothers of twins in the pre-1870 batch gave birth, on average, to 1.9 more children than the mothers of singletons. Those in the post-1870 batch had 2.3 more. More importantly, from an evolutionary point of view, more of their children made it to maturity. The mothers of twins in the pre-1870 batch had 1.24 more children who survived past the age of 18 than other mothers. After that date the figure was 1.56.
