The Pacific island nation of Palau has become home to the sixth largest marine sanctuary in the world. The new marine reserve, now the largest in the Pacific, will 26)permit no fishing or mining. Palau also established the world's first shark sanctuary in 2009.
The tiny island nation has set aside 500,000 square kilometres—80 percent —of its maritime 27) territory, for full protection. That's the highest percentage of an 28) exclusive economic zone devoted to marine conservation by any country in the world.
The remaining 20 percent of the Palau seas will be reserved for local fishing by individuals and small-scale 29) commercial fishing businesses with limited exports.
"Island 30) communitieshave been among the hardest hit by the threats facing the ocean," said President Tommy E. Remengesau Jr. in a statement. "Creating this sanctuary is a bold move that the people of Palau recognise as31) essential to our survival. We want to lead the way in restoring the health of the ocean for future generations."
Palau has only been an 32) independent nation for twenty years and has a strong history of environmental protection. It is home to one of the world's finest marine ecosystems, with more than 1,300 species of fish and 700 species of coral.

Germany Banning all Vehicle Emissions by 2030
Many European countries have been making the shift to electric vehicles and Germany has just stated that they plan to ban the sale of vehicles using gasoline and diesel as fuel by 2030. The country is also planning to reduce its carbon footprint by 80-95% by 2050, 26) sparking a shift to green energy in the country. Effectively, the ban will encompass the registration of new cars in the country as they will not allow any gasoline 27) powered vehicle to be registered after 2030.
Part of the reason this ban is being discussed and 28) implemented is because energy officials see that they will not reach their emissions goals by 2050 if they do not 29) eliminate a large portion of vehicle emissions. The country is still 30) hopeful that it will meet its emissions goals, like reducing emissions by 40% by 2020, but the 31) acceptance of electric cars in the country has not occurred as fast as expected.
Other efforts to increase the use of electric vehicles include plans to build over 1 million hybrid and electric battery charging stations across the country. By 2030, Germany plans on having over 6 million charging stations 32) installed. According to the International Business Times, electric car sales are expected to increase as Volkswagen is still recovering from its emissions scandal.
There are 33) currently around 155,000 registered hybrid and electric vehicles on German roads, dwarfed by the 45 million gasoline and diesel cars driving there now. As countries continue setting goals of reducing emissions, greater steps need to be taken to have a 34) noticeable effect on the surrounding environment. While the efforts are certainly not 35) futile, the results of such bans will likely only start to be seen by generations down the line, bettering the world for the future.

53. A. The busier one appears, the more respect one earns.
54. D. The role of knowledge in modern economy.
55. D. Avoid appearing busy when we are not.
What does the author advise us to do at the end of the passage? 其他三个选项分别是a. schedule our time properly for efficiency. b. plan our weekends in a meaningful way. c. find time to relax however busy we are. )
Even if you feel tempted to sacrifice your own vocation days for fake busyness, though, at least consider leaving your weekend unscheduled. It's for your own good.

Taihu Lake, a freshwater lake in the east of China, covering an area of 2,250 square kilometers, is the third largest freshwater lake in China, only second to Poyang Lake and Dongting Lake. There are about 90 islands in the lake and their sizes range from a few square meters to several square kilometers. Taihu Lake is famous for its unique “Taihu stones”, which are often used as decorations for traditional Chinese gardens. The lake is also renowned for its productive fishing industry. Since the late 1970s, the fishing of fish and crabs has become quite significant to people living along the lake and has made tremendous contributions to the economy of the surrounding areas. Taihu Lake region is also one of the bases of China’s ceramics industry, with Yixing Pottery Factory producing the world-famous Yixing clay teapots.

With an altitude of 3,205 meters, Qinghai Lake, the largest salt water lake in China, is about 100 kilometers west of Xi’ning, which is the provincial capital of Qinghai Province. It covers an area of 4,317 square kilometers and its maximum depth is 25.5 meters. Twenty-three rivers run into it, most of which are seasonal rivers. Eighty percent of the lake water comes from five main rivers. The lake is located at the intersection of several routes by which migrant birds fly across Asia. Many birds use the lake as a temporary habitat during the process of migration. The famous “Bird Island”, which attracts bird watchers from all over the world, is on the western side of the lake. Every summer, tourists come here to watch the Qinghai Lake International Cycling Race.
Dongting Lake, which is located in the northeast of Hunan Province, covers a large area but is rather shallow. It is the flood retention reservoir of the Yangtze River. Thus, the size of the lake varies with the season to a large extent. Hubei Province and Hunan Province derived their names from their relative locations to the lake: Hubei means “the north of the lake” while Hunan “the south of the lake.” Dongting Lake, as the cradle of the dragon boat race, enjoys a high reputation in Chinese culture. It is said that the dragon boat race originated on the east shore of Dongting Lake, with the purpose of searching for the corpse of Qu Yuan, the patriotic poet of Chu State. The dragon boat race, Dongting Lake and the beautiful scenery surrounding it attract thousands of tourists from home and abroad annually.

Everyoneshould bear in mind one motto, that is, “Respect others, and you will berespected.” Why? If one desires to acquire and enjoy long-time respect, trust orappreciation from others, it is rational for him to show respect to his classmates, friends, acquaintances and thelike first in daily communication.
Whether inhistory or in the contemporary society, mutual respect is the basis ofsuccessful social communication. Several typical examples can be given toillustrate this point. If customers gainno respect from the owner or assistant of a store, is it possible for them topurchase anything there? If a teacher never respects his or her students, how can the students honor theteacher? Intelligent people in large numbers, actually, have come to recognizethe significance of showing respect to others. Accordingly, we can concludethat in interpersonal communication, respecting others may generate a sense oftrust in them, arouse their enthusiasm for making friends with us and ofcourse, enable us to be respected in return.
I, as a youngster, deem that it is quitenecessary for us to show our sincere respect to others in that respect. Onlywhen we show respect to others will they do the same to us. Only when peoplerespect each other will the world become a more harmonious and pleasant placeto live in.

Intelligent people in large numbers, actually, have come torecognize the significance of understanding others.
I, as a youngster, hold the view that it isof great necessity for us to try our uttermost to understand others becauseunderstanding, just like mutual understanding and mutual trust, is oftenreciprocal. Only when we seek to understand others will others do the same tous. Only when people understand each other will the world become a moreharmonious and enjoyable place to live in.
Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30minutes to write an essay commenting on the saying “Help others, and you will behelped when you are in need.” You can cite examples to illustrateyour views. You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200words.
When seeing the motto “Help others, and youwill be helped when you are in need.”, we can easily perceive its connotation.Evidently, this motto can be naturally associated with the great significanceof mutual help.
If one desires to acquire and enjoylong-time happiness and success in his study, work or scientific research, itis rational for him to give a hand to those people who are in trouble. Severaltypical examples can be given to illustrate this point. It is mutual help thatrenders it possible for classmates to assist each other in acquiring some usefulknowledge or skills in their college life. It is also mutual assistance that willenable colleagues to cooperate with each other to jointly complete somechallenging commercial projects successfully. It is still mutual help thatmakes it possible for scientists to make some technological innovations intheir research. Accordingly, we can conclude that it would be almost impossiblefor people to make outstanding achievements if they are not willing to helpothers in their study, work or scientific research.
I, as a college student, am convinced thatit is of great necessity for us to be warmhearted, considerate and ready tooffer others help. Only when we are readily available to those in need will webe able to get help and support if we run into problems or troubles.
