1. out of the question 不可能

A: Flying in weather like this is out of the question.

B: But when will it clear up? I have to get to Beijing today.

A：这种天气里飞行是不可能的。

B：可天什么时候才转晴呢？我今天得到北京去。

Because of our financial condition, it’s out of the question to buy a new car.

就我们的经济状况，是不可能买新车的。

2. make up one’s mind 决定

Have you made up your mind yet?

你决定了吗？

A: Where do you want to go? Paris or Rome?

B: I just can’t make up my mind, you know, they both are so attractive to me.

A：你想去哪儿？巴黎还是罗马？

B：我还决定不了，你知道，这两个地方都很吸引我。

3. do sb. a favor 帮某人忙

Would you do me a favor and lend me $10?

你能不能帮我个忙借我十美元？

A: Would you do me a favor and type these papers for me?

B: Sure. When do you want them to be finished?

A：你能不能帮我打一下这些文件？

B：当然可以。你想什么时候要？

4. be up to sb. 由某人决定

A: When shall we go?

B: It’s up to you.

A：我们什么时候走？

B：你做主吧。

Now it’s all up to the President of the company.

这个现在全由公司的总裁决定。

5. in the long run最终；毕竟；从长远来看

I think we’ll be OK in the long run.

我觉得从长远来看我们会好起来的。

A: What do you think of our new marketing strategy?

B: I think it will be a success in the long run.

A：你觉得我们新的营销策略怎么样？

B：我觉得它最终会成功的。

6. get sb. down使某人沮丧；使某人失望

Don’t let it get you down. You can do it well next time.

别因为这个就沮丧嘛。你下次可以做好它的。

A: This whole situation gets me down. I just don’t like it.

B: Don’t worry. As time goes by, your opinion will change.

A：这一切都让我好沮丧。我实在不喜欢。

B：别急。时间一久，你的看法就会改变的。
