《道德经》第十一章 整体之起源决定事物的功用,各局部(整体)之主体实现事物的功用
一,经文
三十辐共一毂(gǔ),当其无,有车(jū)之用。
埏埴(shān zhí)以为器,当其无,有器之用。
凿户牖(yǒu)以为室,当其无,有室之用。
故有之以为利,无之以为用。
二,经文释义
三十根辐条安插在一个轮毂上,正是由于车子整体之起源(起因),辐条和轮毂才有了车子的功用。
把黏土踩和成熟泥以制作陶器,正是由于陶器整体之起源(起因),黏土才有了陶器的功用。
开凿门窗以建造居室,正是由于居室整体之起源(起因),门窗才有了居室的功用。
可见,相对整体内各局部(整体)之主体担当应用,相对整体之起源担当功用。
(整体之起源决定事物的功用,各局部即整体之主体实现事物的功用,即事物的功用只有在整体中才能确定和实现)
三,英译
Thirty spokes are installed in one wheel hub, it is because of the origin of the entirety of the carriage that the spokes and wheel hub have the function of the carriage.
Make the clay into grog to make pottery, it is because of the origin of the entirety of the pottery that clay has the function of the pottery.
Process doors and windows to build a house, it is because of the origin of the entirety of the house that doors and windows have the function of a house.
It can be seen that the primary coverage of all parts in the relative entirety plays the role of the application, and the origin of the relative entirety plays the role of the function.
(The origin of the whole determines the function of things, the primary coverage of all parts realizes the function of things,that is, the function of things can only be determined and realized in the whole. )
