英语构词法：柯林斯英语词典2020年度热词

俄罗斯卫星通讯社(sputniknews)报道，英国权威的《柯林斯英语词典》公布了2020年度词汇(https://www.collinsdictionary.com/)。

柯林斯词典发布2020年年度十大词汇，分别为封锁（lockdown）、冠状病毒（coronavirus）、黑人的命也是命（BLM）、核心工作者（key worker）、休假(furlough)、自我隔离(self- isolation)、社交距离(social distancing)、梅根脱欧（MEGxit）、Tik Tok用户（Tik Toker）以及吃播（mukbang）。

1. lockdown 封城

  • 定义：the imposition of stringent restrictions on travel, social interaction, and access to public spaces.（对旅行、社交活动和进入公共场所施加严格限制）

  • 构词：复合词，由lock+down组成。lock down是动词词组，意思是“船过闸向下游驶去，过闸下驶；封锁；封城”，这里直接复合成一个单词。

2. coronavirus 冠状病毒

  • 定义：Any one of a group of RNA-containing viruses that can cause infectious illnesses of the respiratory tract, including COVID-19.（能引起呼吸道传染病的一组含核糖核酸病毒中的任何一种，包括新冠肺炎病毒）

  • 构词：复合词，由corona（华；日华）+virus（病毒）组成。

3. Megxit  梅根退位

  • 构词：复合构词+派生构词。复合词ticktok可能是tick（钟表滴答声）+tock（钟表滴答声）的简化。加后缀-er派生出tiktoker。还有一种说法，认为首字母T和抖音的“抖”接近，tik和tok和潮汕话与闽南话发音接近，表示“逛街”的意思。

8. social distancing 社交距离

  • 定义：the practice of maintaining a certain distance between oneself and other people in order to prevent infection with a disease. Also called: physical distancing > social distance or socially distance (verb).（为了防止感染疾病而保持自己和他人之间一定距离的行为。也叫:物理距离>社交距离或社交距离(动词)）

  • 构词：词组，旧词新义。受新冠疫情影响而赋予的新含义。

9. self-isolate 自我隔离

  • 定义：to quarantine oneself if one has or suspects one has a contagious disease.（如果一个人患有或怀疑患有传染病，隔离自己）

  • 构词：复合词，由self（自己）+isolate（隔离）组成。

10. BLM 黑人的命也是命

  • 定义：ABBREVIATION FOR Black Lives Matter: a movement that campaigns against racially motivated violence and oppression（“黑人的命也是命”的缩写:反对种族暴力和压迫的运动）

  • 构词：缩略构词。首字母缩略法，选取Black Lives Matter的第一个字母组成。
