I want you to know one thing.

You know how this is:

if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists:
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.
 
Well, now,
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop loving you little by little.
 
If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.
 
If you think it long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
remember
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots will set off
to seek another land.

if each day,

巴勃罗·聂鲁达，智利当代著名诗人。13岁开始发表诗作，1923年发表第一部诗集《黄昏》，1924年发表成名作《二十首情诗和一支绝望的歌》，自此登上智利诗坛。他的诗歌既继承西班牙民族诗歌的传统，又接受了波德莱尔等法国现代派诗歌的影响；既吸收了智利民族诗歌特点，又从沃尔特·惠特曼的创作中找到了自己最倾心的形式。聂鲁达的一生有两个主题，一个是政治，另一个是爱情。他早期的爱情诗集《二十首情诗和一首绝望的歌》被认为是他最著名的作品之一。
