13世纪初期进入英语，直接源自古法语的chargier，意为“装载，负担”；最初源自拉丁语的carrus，意为“马车”。

【义】
charge常用作动词，主要表示“收费；充电；冲锋；委任”。如：
How much do you charge per unit?你们每件要价多少呢？He forgot to charge the battery.他忘记给电池充电了。The cavalry charged the hostile fort.骑兵冲向敌堡。She was charged with an important mission.她被委以重任。
charge也可用作名词，主要表示“责任；控诉”。如：
As the group leader, you should take charge.你身为组长, 应当负起责任来。He was arrested on a charge of armed robbery.他被指控犯武装抢劫罪而遭逮捕。
