“I’m going to miss you so much, Poppy,” said the tall, thin teenager. He bent down to hug his old friend goodbye. He stood up, hugged his parents, and smiled, trying not to let his emotions (情绪) get the better of him.
His parents were not quite able to keep theirs under control. They had driven their son several hours out of town to the university where he would soon be living and studying. It was time to say goodbye for now at least. The family hugged and smiled through misty eyes and then laughed.
The boy lifted the last bag onto his shoulder, and flashed a bright smile. “I guess this is it,” he said. “I’llsee you back home in a month, okay?” His parents nodded, and they watched as he walked out of sight into the crowds of hundreds of students and parents. The boy’s mother turned to the dog, “Okay, Poppy, time to go back home.”
The house seemed quiet as a tomb without the boy living there. All that week, Poppy didn’t seem interested in her dinner, her favorite toy, or even in her daily walk. Her owners were sad too, but they knew their son would beback to visit. Poppy didn’t.
They offered the dog some of her favorite peanut butter treats. They even let her sit on the sofa, but the old girl just wasn’t her usual cheerful self. Her owners started to get worried. “What should we do to cheer Poppy up?” asked Dad. “We’ve tried everything.”
“I have an idea, but it might be a little crazy,” smiled Mom. “Without anybody left in the house but us, this place could use a bit of fun. Let’s get a little dog for Poppy.”
It didn’t take        long before they walked through the front door carrying a big box. Poppy welcomed them home as usual, but when she saw the box,she stopped. She put her nose on it. Her tail began wagging (摆动)ever so slowly, then faster as she caught the smell.
1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
2.至少使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语;
3.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;
Paragraph 1:
Dad opened the box and a sweet little dog appeared.
Paragraph 2:
A few weeks later, the boy arrived home from the university.
Poppy,dog,box
动作——hugged,watched,back
第一段情节:父亲打开盒子→新伙伴胆怯的露出脑袋→然后是爪子扒着盒子(box)→波比(Poppy)绕着盒子跑了两圈→爸爸把小狗(dog)抱出来→两只狗开始在房间里跑来跑去→父母(parents)和狗狗一起快乐的(cheerful)生活→并且等待男孩回家(back);
Paragraph 1:
Dad opened the box and a sweet little dog appeared. It slowly showed its head, blinking its little eyes, then, two claws picked up the edge of the box and stood up. Unluckily, it fell in the box in a second. Poppy ran around the box twice, barking and barking. Dad took the dog to the ground gently. At first, the dog didn’t move. Poppypushed his beloved toy to the dog. Soon, the two puppies ran after each other in the house happily. Day by day, the boy’s parents lived a cheerful life together with two puppies, while waiting for their boy to be back.
Paragraph 2:
A few weeks later, the boy arrived home from the university. As soon as he entered the house, the boy and his parents hugged each other. Seeing the boy coming back, Poppy rushed forward to the boy’s feet with delight, shaking her head and wagging her tail. Her new partner watched them silently and moved to them a little bit. At last, he swished forward, learned how Poppy looked, and wagged his tail, too. Finally, the boy and two puppies were playing on the sofa excitedly.
1.词汇
blink v. 眨眼睛;beloved adj.
2.短语
rush forward 向前冲;with delight 开心地
(1)Day by day, the boy’s parents lived a cheerful life together with two puppies, while waiting for their boy to be back.
主句是“the boy’s parents lived a cheerful life”,“Day by day”是时间状语,“while waiting for their boy to be back”是省略了主语they和系动词were的状语从句。
(2) Seeing the boy coming back, Poppy rushed forward to the boy’s feet with delight, shaking her head and wagging her tail.
[分析] 本句是一个简单句,主句是“Poppy rushed forward to the boy’s feet with delight”,“Seeing the boy coming back”和“shaking her head and wagging her tail”作伴随状语。

A few weeks before Thanksgiving one year, my then-husband and I decided to invite a guest over for the holiday. I called a senior center and they suggested Ilse, a woman I imagined would be quiet, soft-spoken. Unexpectedly, she was a stubborn 78-year-old gambler (赌徒).
On Thanksgiving, within minutes of arriving, Ilse threw her oversized purse on the kitchen counter and, with a wide smile, welcomed the glass of wine my husband offered. We felt as if she were an old friend after dining. Two weeks later, I invited her to lunch. The more time I spent with Ilse, the more she became like a grandma. She wasn’t afraid to share her opinion or to ask me when I was finally going to have children. “You’re not getting any younger,” she’d say.
I soon became her personal driver. And I noticed the more favors I agreed to do, the more she asked of me. Six months after we met, I called her only child, Ralph for help, but he claimed he didn’t have time. I doubted his “I’m too busy” excuse. A few months later, Ralph passed away. After the funeral, having realized Ilse was too upset to be left alone, I helped her hire a caregiver. She was like family to me, I felt responsible for her. And I was the only one left in her side.
Each time I stopped by her apartment, Ilse seemed more disconnected than the time before. Late one afternoon, she called from the emergency room to tell me she had tripped over her coffee table. Using the spare key she’d insisted I make before, I searched her apartment and took the table away. The next morning, Ilse called to ask about her table. She was angry and told me how upset she was without it. Then she hung up on me. When Ilse called that evening to apologize, I told my husband to say I wasn’t home. I was still angry and hurt.

Paragraph 1:
The following day, I returned her call but was unable to understand what she was saying. I drove her tothe emergency room, where the doctor confirmed she had suffered a mild stroke. During the next few days, I dropped by her apartment, but she was no longer the person I knew. At the weekend, I received an early-morningcall from her caregiver. “Please come over. She’s passed away.” When I arrived, I saw Ilse lying on her bed, motionless, her eyes closed. I sat on the edge of the bed and held her hand, too shocked to cry.
Paragraph 2:
The morning after Ilse’s death, I pulled her will out. Ilse had insisted I take a copy of it a year earlier. I stopped reading when I saw my name. She had left me $50,000, which she had never mentioned before. If she had, I would have insisted she donate the money to charity. I knew I couldn’t spend the money on myself since I didn’t expect to ask anything in return for my pay. Without hesitation, I donated it to various families and charities withchildren to help them well educated in her name.
