《碟中谍》里为什么要有英语儿歌：Humpty Dumpty

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall，在攀上梵蒂冈城的高墙之后，Ethan Hunt首先想到的就是这句儿歌。

在英语国家，Humpty Dumpty可谓是知名度最高的儿歌。人们对Humpty Dumpty的熟悉程度，甚至要超过哈姆雷特的To be or not to be。

同时，Humpty Dumpty也是英语中最著名的谜语；全文非常简短，只有4句：

儿歌的主角，名字叫Humpty Dumpty，情节大意是：

Humpty Dumpty坐地墙头上，

Humpty Dumpty栽了个大跟斗。

即使把国王的全部人马都找来，

也无法把Humpty Dumpty重新复原。

谜底指的是，一旦摔碎就无法再团起来的“鸡蛋”。

Humpty Dumpty已经有300多年的历史。今天，Humpty Dumpty已经失去了谜语的意义，但已经成为英语世界的文化符号，经常在文学作品出现，有时，哲学、物理学领域也会借用这个形象。

在《爱丽丝漫游仙境》的续集中，作者卡罗尔曾借用Humpty Dumpty之口，指出了一种常见的语言表达现象：

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less."

Humpty Dumpty轻蔑地对爱丽丝说道，“如果我使用一个词语，那么，这个词语的含义完全由我来决定，我说是什么意思、就是什么意思，任何人都不能干涉。”

这种蛮横霸道的作法，在中国也有先例。秦二世的大臣赵高，当年指鹿为马，和Humpty Dumpty如出一辙。

在日常语言中，Humpty Dumpty的用法很多，有时用来形容某人的地位或职位不稳固，有时描述某件事物一旦损坏就无法修复，偶尔也用来形容身材矮胖的人。

All the king's horses and all the king's men

除了主人公Humpty Dumpty，儿歌中的配角也进入了英语的日常语言。第三行中的All the king's horses and all the king's men，已经成为成语，日常生活中广泛使用，表示“倾其所能、动用所有的资源和手段”的含义。

1976年的电影All the President's Men（总统班底），根据水门事件改编。

有两部著名的美国电影，1949年的All the King's Men，和1976年的All the President's Men，名称都是来源于Humpty Dumpty的第3句。

《神探夏洛克》中的台词，就用到了All the king's horses的说法：

You think you can make me stop the order?

你以为能逼我撤销命令?
