The table was almost hidden beneath all Dudley's birthday presents. 餐桌几乎被达利的生日礼物堆得满满的。

The snake nodded vigorously.

The snake jabbed its tail at a little sign next to the glass. Harry peered at it.
巨蟒甩着尾巴猛地拍了一下玻璃窗上的一块小牌子。哈利仔细看了一下。

As the snake shook its head, a deafening shout behind Harry made both of them jump.
当巨蟒正在摇头回答时，哈利背后突然传来震耳欲聋的喊叫，哈利和巨蟒都吓了一跳。

Dudley came waddling toward them as fast as he could.
达力摇摇摆摆地赶紧朝他们走过来。

Caught by surprise, Harry fell hard on the concrete floor.
哈利惊讶不已，重重地摔在水泥地上。

-- one second, Piers and Dudley were leaning right up close to the glass, the next, they had leapt back with howls of horror.
只见皮尔和达力一下子紧贴在玻璃上，马上又惊恐万状，大喊大叫，连蹦带跳往后退去。

Harry sat up and gasped; the glass front of the boa constrictor's tank had vanished.
哈利坐起来，大口喘气；蟒蛇柜前的玻璃不见了。

The great snake was uncoiling itself rapidly, slithering out onto the floor.
巨蟒迅速地伸展开盘着的身体，溜到地板上。

People throughout the reptile house screamed and started running for the exits.
整个爬虫馆的人都尖叫着，向出口跑去。

As the snake slid swiftly past him, Harry could have sworn a low, hissing voice said, "Brazil, here I come.... Thanksss, amigo."
当巨蟒溜过哈利身旁时，哈利清清楚楚地听到一个咝咝的声音轻轻地说：“我是从巴西来到这里的..多谢，我走了。”

It was her shrill voice that made the first noise of the day. 每天这里发出的第一声噪音就是他的尖叫声

wake with a start 惊醒

His aunt rapped on the door again. 她的姨妈又在拍打她的房门。

'Up!' she screeched. 起来！她尖叫道

He rolled onto his back and tried to remember the dream he had been having. 他翻身背对着门，尽力回忆刚才做过的梦。

get a move on 赶紧的

look after the bacon 照看熏咸肉

Harry groaned. 哈利咕哝了一声。

“What did you say?" his aunt snapped through the door 你说什么？姨妈透过门厉声问

Harry got slowly out of bed and started looking for socks. 哈利慢慢吞吞从床上爬起来，开始找袜子。

Harry was used to spiders. 哈利对蜘蛛早就习惯了。

When he was dressed he went down the hall into the kitchen. 他穿好衣服，顺着走廊来到厨房。

punch sb. 对某人拳脚相加

'Comb your hair' he barked. 把你的头发梳一梳，他咆哮着。

His face fell.他的脸沉下来了

have a tantrum 大怒，发脾气

wolf down bacon 狼吞虎咽地吃培根

ruffle one's hair 揉了揉头发

Dudley's mouth fell open in horror, but Harry's heart gave a leap. 达利吓得张口结舌，哈利的心里却高兴得砰砰直跳

looking furiously at Harry as though he had planned this 气急败坏地看着哈利好像这是他策划的一样

snapped Aunt Petunia 佩妮姨妈厉声说

have a go on Dudley's computer 试着玩一下达利的电脑

she snarled 她大吼道

screw up face and wail 哭丧着脸嗷嗷嚎叫

fling her arms around him 猛地移动手臂抱住他

Dudley yelled between huge, pretend sobs. 达利一边大喊大叫一边抽抽嗒嗒地假哭。

He shot Harry a nasty grin through the gap in his mother's arms. 他躲在母亲臂弯里不怀好意地朝哈利撇嘴一笑。

said Aunt Petunia frantically 佩妮姨妈慌慌张张地说

Dudley stopped pretending to cry at once. 达利立马停止假哭了

put his large purple face right up close to Harry's 把他那张红得发紫的大脸凑向哈利

to his great relief 让他大大地松了一口气

as a motorcycle overtook them 当一辆摩托车超车时

Dudley and Piers sniggered. 达利和皮尔吃吃地笑起来。（就是暗笑，坏笑）

He turned right around in his seat. 他在座位上转过身来。

Behind the glass, all sorts of lizards and snakes were crawling and slithering over bits of wood and stone.

Dudley and Piers wanted to see huge, poisonous cobras and thick, man-crushing pythons.

It could have wrapped its body twice around Uncle Vernon's car and crushed it into a trash can -- but at the moment it didn't look in the mood.

Dudley stood with his nose pressed against the glass, staring at the glistening brown coils.

"Make it move," he whined at his father. Uncle Vernon tapped on the glass, but the snake didn't budge.“
让它动呀。”达力哼哼唧唧地央求他父亲。弗农姨父敲了敲玻璃，巨蟒却纹丝不动。

"Do it again," Dudley ordered. Uncle Vernon rapped the glass smartly with his knuckles, but the snake just snoozed on.“
再敲一遍。”达力命令说。弗农姨父用指节狠狠地敲玻璃，可大蟒继续打盹

"This is boring," Dudley moaned. He shuffled away.“
真烦人。”达力抱怨了一句，拖着脚慢吞吞走开

look intently at the snake 仔细打量这条巨蟒

hammer on the door to wake sb. up 捶门让某人起床

Slowly, very slowly, it raised its head until its eyes were on a level with Harry's.
慢慢地、慢慢地抬起头来，直到与哈利的眼睛一般高。
