For every new year, I guess, almost everybody will have something that he or she is looking forward to, mostly new things, of course, like you plan to travel somewhere or try a new lifestyle. New concerns bring along with new things, so are you ready for this yet?
我想，在每个新年到来之际，几乎每一个人都会对一些事情的发生有所期待，当然，大部分都是新鲜之事，例如你打算旅行一次或是尝试一种新的生活方式。但新事物也会带来新的担忧，所以你准备好了吗？
Just like last winter, I went to Beijing for my first time in life both living and working outside my hometown to give myself a new start which was really a great adventure for me. I didn’t even make any plans for my new life, like checking the weather or getting to know the food there. I just got packed and bought a ticket before I arrived.
正如去年冬天，我想要给自己一个新的开始，于是我去了北京。开启了一段离开家独自在外生活和工作的日子, 这对我来说是一次“很大的冒险”。当时什么计划都没有，诸如查询天气或是了解当地食物。我只是收拾了行李，买了一张机票，便踏上了异地之旅。
When I first arrived there, a lot of things were waiting for me to meet no matter good or bad or something you didn’t even expect. I found it really not easy for me to adapt the weather and the food there in the first several months as I am from South China. So I complained about the dry climate a lot back then and the first person I complained to is the service room lady in the hotel. She said to me: You will get used to it!
当我第一次到达时，我忽然意识到此行还有很多事情将会发生，无论是顺利的或是不顺的以及那些你没有预料到的事。同时，对于来自中国南方的我，适应当地的饮食和天气对我来说不是一件易事。所以当时我一直抱怨北京干燥的天气，我记得第一个抱怨对象还是打扫房间的阿姨。她对我说：你会慢慢适应的！
After spending some time living and working in Beijing for another few months, the dry climate was not a problem for me any more as I found more fun things to do and fun people to hang out with in town which made me complain less and happier in life. Then I learned a “lesson”: There are some risks involved in new things, but I know there are rewards too.
于是，在北京居住和工作了又几个月以后，我发现的确适应了，干燥的气候对我来说已经不是问题，因为我碰到了很多有趣的事情以及有趣的人们。这样一来我的抱怨也少了，也开心了许多。我从中得到的“教训”就是：虽然新鲜事物的风险常相伴，但是我知道也有一些甜头。
So life tells us that when we try new things, there is always the risk that we will not be happy with our choices.
所以生活告诉我们当尝试新事物的时候，我们总会遇到选择中的那些风险。
We might try a food we have never tried before and end up disliking it, which it could be too sour or too salty. It could be too spicy.
我们可以尝试还未尝过的食物，最终以讨厌它告终。它要么太酸或要么太咸。还可能会太辣。
But if we take the risk, we might try a new food and end up loving it. It could be sweet or have a great flavor. It could be an experience that makes our taste buds feel like they are in heaven.
但如果我们敢冒这个险，那就可以尝试一种新的食物，或许最终会爱上它。它可能非常甜或者味道棒极了。这可能是一种经历，使我们的味蕾感觉好似在天堂。
We might try a new sport and fall down but we get back up and eventually experience exhilaration, even for a minute.
我们可以尝试一种新的运动，虽然会摔倒，不过我们会重新站起来，最终会收获愉快，哪怕是一分钟的短暂快乐。
We might see why people love that sport so much.
我们可以理解人们为什么如此喜欢体育运动。
We might try a new kind of music and regret that we didn’t discover it sooner.
我们可以尝试一种新的音乐，并且抱憾为什么我们没有早发现它。
We might try to write or speak a different language. And we might be a little embarrassed as first.
我们可以尝试写或说不同的语言。我们可能起初会有点不好意思。
But we don’t let it bother us too much because we know that the only way to improve is to make mistakes and keep on practicing.
但我们不会让它烦扰我们很久，因为我们知道改善自己的唯一途径就是不断犯错误和持之以恒的练习。
