古典戏剧的叙事结构可以分为五部分：铺垫、发展、高潮、回落和灾难。

小王子的叙事结构特别明显：第一章是叙事者（即飞行员）的自述，是铺垫；第二章到第九章讲述飞行员和小王子的相遇和互动，是发展；第十章到第十五章讲述小王子走访六颗小行星的经过，是高潮部分；第十六章到二十三章讲述小王子在地球上的遭遇，是回落；第二十四到二十七章又继续讲述飞行员和小王子的相处，并以小王子的消失告终，是灾难部分。

几乎所有看到过小王子的读者都会久久难以忘怀叙事者第一幅画带给他们的震撼：那幅画看上去像帽子，但实际上是蟒蛇吞大象。某种意义上来说，《小王子》本身就很像那幅画，这个貌似简单的故事隐藏着无数人生道理。

I have another reason: this grown-up understands everything, even books about children. I have a third reason: he lives in France where he is hungry and cold. He needs cheering up. If all these reasons are not enough, I will dedicate the book to the child from whom this grown-up grew. All grown-ups were once children-- although few of them remember it.
