miss
【源】
直接源自古英语的missan，意为“未击中”；最初源自古日耳曼语的missjan，意为“错误，弄错”。另一个做‘小姐’称呼之意，1645年进入英语，原意为“妓女”。
【音】
[mɪs]
【义】
miss既可以用作名词，也可以用作动词。
当用作名词时，主要表示“小姐；失误”。当表示“小姐”时，常用作称呼，首字母要大写。如：
My brother married Miss Jenny.我哥哥与珍妮小姐结婚。A miss is as good as a mile.失之毫厘，差之千里。
当用作动词时，主要表示“想念；错过”。如：
I do miss the children. The house seems as silent as the tomb without them.我真想念孩子们。他们不在家里显得太沉静了。It's the chance of a lifetime. You shouldn't miss it.这是一生中难得的机会，你不应错过。
