One day when I was 12, my mother gave me an order: I was to walk to the public library, and borrow at least one book for the summer. This was one more weapon for her to defeat my strange problem — inability to read.
In the library, I found my way into the“Children’s Room.” I sat down on the floor and pulled a few books off the shelf at random. The cover of a book caught my eye. It presented a picture of a beagle. I had recently had a beagle, the first and only animal companion I ever had as a child. He was my secret sharer, but one morning, he was gone, given away to someone who had the space and the money to care for him. I never forgot my beagle.
There on the book’s cover was a beagle which looked identical to my dog. I ran my fingers over the picture of the dog on the cover. My eyes ran across the title, Amos, the Beagle with a Plan. Unknowingly, I had read the title. Without opening the book, I borrowed it from the library for the summer.
Under the shade of a bush, I started to read about Amos. I read very, very slowly with difficulty. Though pages were turned slowly, I got the main idea of the story about a dog who, like mine, had been separated from his family and who finally found his way back home. That dog was my dog, and I was the little boy in the book. At the end of the story, my mind continued the final scene of reunion, on and on, until my own lost dog and I were, in my mind, running together. When I finished my reading, a stream of tears ran down my checks. It was until then I realized that I have overcome my inability to read. Thus, this was the very first book for me which I had read through and deeply immersed in real sense.

例如,第一段可以通过问以下问题来获取写作要点“Did he overcome his inability to read? Did he go on reading? What was the influence of the first book?”等”第二段可以问以下问题来获取写作要点:“What would happened after he got his PhD in literature? Why would he choose literature as his major? What would he do for his future career? And how did it related to his very first book?等”

My mother’s call returned me to the real world. I suddenly realized something: Books could be incredibly wonderful and I was going to read them. From then on, I kept going to the library more often. Day by day, I was finally succeed in overcoming my inability to read. Moreover, I began to write some stories by myself. When I went to the university, I chose literature as my major.
Last year, my mother was so proud that his son was rewarded a PhD in literature. I never told my mother about my “miraculous” experience that summer. It was the very first book that made me what I am today. This year, I began writing my first book carried the topic of my beagle. I hope it could be my lifelong career. The power of the words has held. (174words)
Last year, my mother was so proud that his son was rewarded a PhD in literature.
It was 1st January, the first day of the year and a holiday for me. What luck! I decided to withdraw some money from the bank, The bank person, an elderly gentleman with a white beard, replied indifferently as usual to my polite “Happy New Year.” He nodded and I sat in front of him.
Minutes passed but he didn’t raise his head.
Then very hesitantly I put my form and booklet in front of him. He was busy filling up entries in his register. After a few minutes he took my form and from his cabinet he took out a very thick file, from which he started filling in my details, I sat there wondering why we had computerized banking if we were still filling in forms and register.
After waiting for a few more minutes, in which I showed all signs of being impatient, I asked him if my work was done. The moment I said the words, I felt as if a bomb had fallen on him. He shouted, “Nothing is done, it will take time!”
Just then I saw his morning cup of tea which had been lying there for the last ten minutes, untouched. The tea had tuned almost cold while he was doing his work. Suddenly I felt what this man, who had been working at this counter for the last God-knows-how-many years, must be feeling when customers like me come who are always in a hurry to get their work done. We do not even feel the need to thank them for being there, He must be feeling so anxious that “here comes another person who will push me for doing his work first.”
注意:
1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
2. 至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语;
3. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;
Paragraph 1:
Thinking of this, I told him, “Sir, you please hare your tea, I am not in a hurry.”
Paragraph 2:
What he said really touched my heart.
#范文
Para.1:
Thinking of this, I told him, “Sir, you please have your tea, I am not in a hurry.” This gentleman, who had worked in the bank for so many years, suddenly looked up at me and for the first time we had eye contact—he had never made eye contact earlier. I saw a different person there. He gave me a rare smile and said, “It is an everyday affair with me; you are not in a hurry but somebody else will come who will be in a hurry.”
Para.2:
What he said really touched my heart. I felt that all this time I thought of him as a robot, someone who was there for my convenience, but today I suddenly felt a strange bond with him. I promised to be more friendly with people who help me with my work and be thankful that they are there for me. In our life, we need to put ourselves in other people’s shoes to imagine their thoughts. In this way, we can understand others better.
如:look up at,eye contact, help with等高级词汇;定语从句This gentleman, who had worked in the bank for so many years, suddenly looked up at me and for the first time we had eye contact—he had never made eye contact earlier.;主语从句What he said really touched my heart.
When I spent the last summer with my Grandmother in Warwick, N.Y., she sent me down to the grocery store with a long shopping list. Staring at all the items on the list, I wondered how I could find anything on the packed shelves around me. But she insisted.
I walked up to the counter. Behind it was a lady like no one I’d ever seen. Thick glasses rested on the tip of her nose, gray hair was piled on her head.
“Excuse me,” I said. She looked up.
“You’re that Clements kid,” she said. “I’m Miss Bee. Come closer and let me get a look at you.” She pushed her glasses up her nose. “I want to be able to describe you to the policeman if something goes missing from the store.”
“I’m not a thief!” I was shocked. I was too young to be a thief!
“Maybe not, but I can tell you’ve got potential.” She went back to reading her newspaper.
“I need to get these.” I said, holding up my list.
“So? Go get them.” She ignored my need of a favor, “There’s no one here except you and me and I’m not your servant, so I suggest you start looking for the things on that list.”
The store was a puzzle to a seven-year-old, and it seemed to hold all the goods in the world. I complained about this task Grandma had set me to do while trying to find all the items on my list. It took me one and half an hour to do it, and the mean lady behind the counter didn’t even bother to look at me once.
I visited Miss Bee a couple of times a week that summer. Sometimes she sold me an old newspaper instead of one that was the latest. Sometimes she overcharged me and didn’t seem embarrassed when I pointed it out. Going to the store was more like going into battle, but I survived. By summer’s end the shopping trip that had once taken me an hour was done in 15 minutes. The morning I was to return to Brooklyn, I stopped in to get a soda.
Para. 1:
“All right, Miss Potential, what did you learn this summer?” she said.
Para. 2:
One day after all those years my seven-year-old daughter came to me with homework troubles.
#范文
“All right, Miss Potential, what did you learn this summer?” she said. “That you’re mean!” Finally I said it, thinking that I didn’t have to deal with her again. To my amazement, Miss Bee laughed. “I know what you think of me,” she continued “Well, I don’t care! Each of us is put on this earth for a reason. I believe my job is to teach every child I meet some life lessons to help them.” Embarrassed as I felt, I wasn’t capable of appreciating the lessons she claimed she had given me at such a young age, and I only wished that I had never met her. After checking out, I left.
One day after all those years my seven-year-old daughter came to me with homework troubles. “It’s too hard,” she complained. “Could you finish my math problems for me?” “If I do it for you how will you ever learn to do it yourself?” I responded. Suddenly, I was back at the grocery store where I had learned the hard way to deal with my own business. Had I ever been overcharged since? As my daughter went back to her homework, I wondered: Had Miss Bee really taught me something all those years ago? Sure enough, she didn’t act as a servant but she inspired potential in a seven-year-old.

Embarrassed as I felt, I wasn’t capable of appreciating the lessons she claimed she had given me at such a young age, and I only wished that I had never met her. After checking out, I left. where引导的定语从句Suddenly, I was back at the grocery store where I had learned the hard way to deal with my own business.
