You are existing.
你觉得这两者之间有区别吗？区别在哪呢？
接下来，我们就先来看看由Lewis Arnold执导、美国AMC电视台和英国Channel 4频道联合制作、嘉玛·陈、 科林·摩根等主演的科幻迷你剧《真实的人类》（Humans）中的片段：
在该片段中，女主Niska和科学家之间有这么一段对话：
- And what about death? If that's the way you think of it.
(- No. I don't fear that. Which makes me stronger than any human.)
- You got that the wrong way up. If you're not worried about dying, you're not really living. You're just existing.
科学家所学的“... you're not really living. You're just existing”到底是什么意思呢？
living表示“活着；生活”，而existing表示“存在；生存”。
科学家对Niska这么说，是因为Niska不是真人，而是机器人，但是她却拥有了人类的意识。因此，当Niska说自己不害怕死亡时，科学家就对她说了上面这句话，他的意思是：但凡人类都应该是会有恐惧的，会害怕死亡，否则就仅仅是在这个世上像机器一样生存，而不是像人类一样生活了。
我们再来看看下面两句话：
A third of the population is living at or below the poverty line.
三分之一的人口生活在贫困线或以下。
There is light existing within a person of light.
光明的人有光在里面。
