国内的高中就会文理分科，大学的专业也基本分为文、理工两大类：
Arts: 文科（文史哲社会学等'文科专业'）
Sciences: 理科
表示“文科”时，要用 arts（复数）
表示“艺术”时，要用 art（单数）
Liberal arts: 人文通识学科（主要用在美国，含义与arts基本一致）
students of liberal arts ：文科生
students of science：理科生
另外，现在还流行这么说理科：
STEM(Science Technology Engineering Math): 理科（科学、科技、工程、数学）
