Our developer client saw the small town of Wa Fang Dian, known as the Garden City, as the ideal escape for residents living in nearby densely populated cities like Dalian. FORREC’s plan for the 111-hectare site was to artfully integrate urban amenities into the spectacular natural environment of lush forests, rolling hills and natural hot springs.

The project was designed to preserve the site’s environmentally protected forest areas while creating a sustainable mix of retail, recreational, residential and entertainment zones. Buildings were strategically placed to take maximum advantage of the terrain, with roadways and forested walking paths following the natural topography as they wind through the site. Architecturally, the buildings are distinctly modern but with ample use of materials such as stone, wood, green roofs and water to relate back to nature.
