Ode to Chang’e
Composed by Lu Di
Tr. Wu Haohao
Warm and cold, it does shift time after time.
Plum and orchid, breath of the early spring.
At the full moon night, lovers sing a rhyme.
But Chang’e laments that love's a sad thing.
Chang’e
Chang’e or Chang-o, originally known as Heng’e, is the Chinese goddess of the Moon. She is the subject of several legends in Chinese mythology. One of the legend says that Chang’e flies to the moon after taking the elixir of life granted to Houyi, her husband, by the Queen of the West. Ever since then she lives alone at the Moon Palace.
