国际劳动节（International Workers'/Labour Day或May Day）又称为“五一国际劳动节”和“国际示威游行日”，是世界上80多个国家的全国性节日（it's a national festival in more than 80 countries in the world）。劳动节在每年的五月一日（May 1st），它是全世界劳动人民共同拥有的节日（it's a festival shared by working people all over the world）。

发展历史

1886年

1886年5月1日，芝加哥20多万工人为争取实行八小时工作制而罢工（more than two hundred thousand workers in Chicago are on strike for the implementation of the eight-hour working system），经过艰苦的流血斗争，最终取得了胜利。

1889年

为了纪念这次工人运动（in memory of the workers' movement），1889年在社会主义者代表大会上，会代表一致同意，将五月一日定为国际无产阶级共同的节日。

新中国成立以后

新中国成立以后，中央人民政府政务院在1949年12月将5月1日定为法定的劳动节。每年这一天，举国欢庆，人们换上节日盛装，参加各种庆祝集会或文体活动（participate in all kinds of celebration gatherings or recre-ational and sports activities），并对有突出贡献的劳动者进行表彰（give commendation to outstanding contribution workers）
