“Karen Marsh: Sensational News! By our reporter, Alan Jones. Karen Marsh arrived at London Airport today. She was wearing a blue dress and a mink coat. She told me she had just made a new film. She said she was not going to make another. She said she was going to retire. She told reporters she felt very tired and didn't want to make another film for a long time.”

wonder

【源】

直接源自古英语的wundor;最初源自原始日耳曼语的wundran,意为“美妙的事情,令人惊异的事”。

【音】

['wʌndə(r)]

【义】

wonder用作名词时,主要表示“惊奇;奇观”,相当于miracle。如:

There was a look of wonder in his eyes.他眼中露出惊奇的神色。It's a wonder that the child came through without a scratch.这孩子竟能安然无恙地脱险,真是奇迹。

wonder用作动词时,主要表示“想知道”。如:

I wonder if this picture can be restored.我很想知道这幅画能否修复。

【注意】

wonder的形容词为wonderful,表示“精彩的;极好的”。如:

Never before have I seen such a wonderful film .我从未看过如此精彩的影片。

注意句中的sensational表示“轰动的;耸人听闻的”。

sensational是形容词,其名词原形为sensation(感觉;轰动)。

【注意】

feeling、sense与sensation

这组词都有“感觉”的意思,其区别是:

feeling是这组词中最常用的,可泛指一般的情绪。sense多指身体上五官的感觉,常用来表达五官的感觉。sensationsensation常指身体的反应,尤其是感官如眼睛、神经等对外界刺激的反应。
