“The Inner Structure of the 360 Sabian Symbols
The first thing one needs to realize when studying the inner structure of the Sabian set of symbols is that it deals with the Zodiac as the Universal Matrix — an electromagnetic energy field anchored to Earth. Each of the 360 degrees of the Zodiac are seen as discreet quanta (or releases) of zodiacal energy/substance; each quantum carrying a unique, individualized set of "features" and "properties," such as those symbolically depicted in the Sabian Symbols.
The Wheel of Significance examines the inner structure of the Sabian Symbols in a number of ways, of particular significance is a division of the Zodiac into six polarities (powers, or shaktis): Aries-Taurus, Gemini-Cancer, Leo-Virgo, Libra-Scorpio, Sagittarius-Capricorn and Aquarius-Pisces. The first degree of each "positive" sign (Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius) is designated a "Root Symbol"; the first degree of each "negative" sign (Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces) is seen as a "Symbol of Confirmation."
The work also treats the Zodiac as a series of "Four Watches" of six Hours each, with each Hour consisting of fifteen zodiacal degrees, divided into three, five-degree Spans, with is interpreted as a pentacle of five "Points," shown below.”

“Furthermore, the Symbol for the first degree of each zodiacal sign depicts a "Confrontation," while the Symbol for the sixteenth degree of each sign offers a "Solution" to the first degree. The Confrontation/Solution pairing of the first and sixteenth degrees is furthermore replicated in the sixth and twenty-first degrees, and in the eleventh and twenty-sixth degrees, each operating at their respective levels.
To help the reader easily place each degree within the structure outlined above, textual aids have been incorporated in the presentation of Rudhyar's 1936 set of the 360 Sabian Symbols found in the Appendix of this volume.
