长难句精读

几句上学期孩子们精读时遇到的长难句。（6年级班）

精读文章取自ThomasHardy （托马斯·哈代）的书Under the GreenwoodTree 。黑体是要求掌握的词汇。

She was wrapped in a white robe ofsome kind; whilst down her shoulders fell a twiningprofusion of marvelously rich hair, in a wild disorder whichproclaimed it to be only during the night that such acondition was discoverable. ​

这句是​讲圣诞夜傍晚，一群业余乡村乐师挨家挨户给人们唱圣歌。他们来到一个姑娘的窗下，看到她一头白天束上去，只有夜晚才放下来从而得以一窥的美发。

Her bright eyeswere looking into the gray world outsidewith anuncertain expre_ssion(这词非得写成这样才行 ？???）, oscillatingbetween courage and shyness which, as she recognized thesemicircular group of dark forms gathered before her, transformeditself into pleasant resolution。

这个姑娘面对窗下唱圣歌的一群乐师，面部表情从犹豫不决到下决心开窗向他们道谢。
Farmer Shinar's was a queer lump of ahouse, standing at the corner of a lane that ran obliquelyinto the principal. thoroughfare. The upper windows weremuch wider than they were high, and this feature, together with abroad bay window where the door might have been expected, gave itby day the aspect of a human countenance turned askance, andwearing a sly and wicked leer.

乐师们来到Farmer Shinar 的屋前.这句是描写FarmerShinar 的房子的外观。Hardy是建筑师出身，因此他对建筑的描写非常精确。这句不仅要读懂，还要求孩子们根据描述画出这座屋子那种sly and wicked leer。（铺垫，从房子就能看出FarmerShinar 不是个友善的人）

... it wasimpossible to know what Mr Shinar had said, was saying or was aboutto say: but wildly flinging his arms and body about in the form ofcapitals Xs and Ys, he appeared to utter enough invectivesto consign the whole parish toperdition.

这句到不难。但描述的非常生动。果然 FarmerShinar 是个grumpy oldman。不喜欢乐师们来唱圣歌打扰他。乐师们很生气，就拼命大声唱。FarmerShinar 一边打手势，一边破口大骂。

In the pauses of conversation couldbe heard throughout the floor overhead a littleworld of undertones and creaks from the halting clockworkwhich never spread further than the tower they were bornin.

乐师们挨家挨户唱完圣歌小餐之后，坐在教堂钟塔下的屋里聊天。在他们说话的间隙，能听到只有他们才能听到的钟的滴答声。（反衬出圣诞夜的静谧）。

（这些貌似有些难度的，不过也就是私校6年级的程度。6年级孩子完全可以领会大家手笔。）
