01.

拖欠

Arrears - Money that is owed and should already have been paid.

  • He ran into difficulties with his mortgage, building up more than £18,000 arrears.
    他的抵押贷款遇到了困难,累积了超过18,000英镑的欠款。
  • The government is committed to the full and timely payment of its public debt and arrears.
    政府承诺及时全额支付其公共债务和欠款。

02.

债务人

Debtor - A person, country, or organisation that owes money. 

  • Student loans force students to graduate as debtors.

    助学贷款迫使学生作为债务人毕业。

  • The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation was appointed receiver of the debtor's assets.

    联邦存款保险公司被指定为债务人资产的接收人。

破产

Bankrupt - unable to pay what you owe, and having had control of your

financial matters given, by a law court, to a person who sells your property to pay your debts. 

  • He went bankrupt after only a year in business.

    他经商仅一年就破产了。

  • The recession has led to many small businesses going bankrupt.

    经济衰退导致许多小企业破产。

保释卡,免狱牌

(A) get out of jail free card - Something or a situation that allows you to avoid an unpleasant result of your actions, for example a punishment. 

  • I'm afraid there's no get out of jail free card when it comes to your taxes. You either pay them, or you pay the fine.

    恐怕在你的税收问题上没有免狱卡。你要么付钱,要么交罚款。

  • Becoming bankrupt is not a get out of jail free card.

    破产不是一张免费的出狱卡。

讨债人

Debt collector - A person or company that collects payments from people who have failed to pay the money they owe. 

  • After she became overdrawn, the bank closed her account and threatened her with debt collectors.
    她透支后,银行关闭了她的账户,并用讨债人威胁她。
  • Just pay your debts. The last thing that you want is debt collectors knocking on your door.
    只要还债就行。你最不想要的就是讨债人敲你的门。
06.
一笔勾销,注销

To write sth off - To accept that an amount of money has been lost or that a debt will not be paid. 

  • The World Bank is being urged to write off debts from developing countries.

    世界银行被敦促注销发展中国家的债务。

  • My debts were written off years ago.

    我的债务几年前就一笔勾销了。

07.

重新开始

A clean slate - An absence of existing restraints or commitments. 

  • I felt like I could start again with a clean slate.

    我觉得我可以重新开始。

  • The criminal has completed his jail sentence and has come out with a clean slate.

    罪犯已服满刑期,并已改过自新。
