Lesson 109 A good idea

Shall I make some coffee, Jane?

That’s a good idea, Charlotte.

It’s ready. Do you want any milk?

Just a little please.

What about some sugar? Two teaspoonfuls?

No, less than that. One and a half teaspoonfuls please. That’s enough for me.

That was very nice.

Would you like some more?

Yes, please.

I’d like a cigarette, too. May I have one?

Of course. I think there are a few in that box.

I’m afraid it’s empty.

What a pity!

It doesn’t matter.

Have a biscuit instead. Eat more and smoke less!

本课继续学习形容词和副词的比较关系,只是本课侧重学习的是形容词和副词的比较级和最高级的不规则变化。

常见的不规则变化的形容词和副词的比较级和最高级可参看下面的表格:

【注意】

如果形容词或副词是通过词缀法构成的,那么即使它是两个音节,其比较级和最高级也要通过more和the most来表达。试比较:

early

slowly

这两个词都是双音节单词,都是副词,都是以ly结尾的。但是:

early是一个独立的单词,并不是通过由ear和ly构成的,所以它的变化是规则,即:

early, earlier, the earliest

而slowly则是由词根slow和后缀ly构成的,所以其比较级和最高级为:

slowly, more slowly, the most slowly

三、更多拓展

Just a little please.

本课出现了一些表数量多少的词语,注意其用法区别。

(一)little与few

都表示很少,但little用来修饰不可数名词,few用来修饰可数名词。

此外,little为否定表达,表示“几乎没有”,而a little为肯定表达,表示“一点点”。如:

little water 几乎没水

a little water 一点点水

同样的,few为否定表达,表示“几乎没有”,而a few为肯定表达,表示“几个”。如:

few people 几乎没人

a few people 几个人

此外,要注意little和few的比较级和最高级的变化规则不一样,即:

little, less, the least

few, fewer, the fewest

(二)much与many

都表示很多,但much用来修饰不可数名词,many用来修饰可数名词。如:

much bread 很多面包

many books 很多书

但是,两者的比较级和最高级却是一样的,都是more和the most。
