他把绘画的本质看作是

某种独立于自然之外的东西

他说:绘画跟现实没关系,绘画根本不需要费力的还原真实世界。

高更找到了一种新的绘画方法,在二维的画布上,用几乎平涂颜色画出空间感。

高更的作品趋向于“原始”的风格。

其用色和线条都较为粗犷。

高更的作品中往往充满具象征性的物与人。

《我们朝拜玛丽亚》

是他在创作《我们从哪里来?我们是谁?我们往哪里去?》前的构思性作品。在野外采摘水果的大溪地妇女,常举行神秘祈神活动。在阳光的照射下呈现出一种原始的神性。背景色彩斑驳绚丽,没有透视感,色彩、形体都是平面的和富有装饰性的。它神秘,就在于收入画中的形象是一种综合的暗示。
