这是由美国演员和歌手 Jeff Daniels 朗读的 Gettysburg Address，是十多年前我从网上下载的。
昨天发的文章中，音频文件无法播放。估计是因为，在文章中插入音频文件后，我又以拷贝的方式挪到了文章的其它位置，导致链接失效。

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
回顾历史：八十多年前，美国建国时期提出了“自由”和“平等”这两个理想信念。
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
演讲时的美国：南方和北方之间正处于内战，冲突的焦点就是，如何坚持“自由”和“平等”；在一次会战之后，人们在战场上修建了公墓，用来安葬阵亡的将士。
But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here.
参加会战的各位军人，无论已经死去的，还是活下来的，都做出了卓越的贡献，让这块土地变得神圣（Dedicate、Consecrate、Hallow，最初都是宗教用语，用来指教堂等建筑的落成）。参战的军人们，将永远被后世铭记缅怀。
It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
呼吁敦促在世的人们，继续努力奋斗，完成未竟的事业，维护建国之初“自由、平等”的理想信念，维护“民有、民治、民享的政府”。
