Emile Eisman Semenosky

〈schola〉

Emile Eisman Semenowsky (Polish/french, 1857-1911) was born in eastern Poland but left the country early and arrived in Paris in the early 1880s. Here, he became an assistant to the Dutch painter Jan Van Beers and became a well known romantic portrait painter of women.
Influenced by other European artists, Semenowsky became enamored with Oriental luxury and painted many beautiful women dressed in the rich colors of oriental culture.
Inspired by the theme of Oriental Culture, he was very much used by the French bourgeoisie at that time, and therefore, in all his works, the most admired were the portraits and genre paintings of women in orientalism and classical dress,
many of these works were later purchased in large quantities by American collectors.
