1.How things have changed! In 1995 the United States can look back on five years of solid growth while Japan has been struggling. 2.Few Americans attribute this solely to such obvious causes as a devalued dollar or the turning of the business cycle. 3.Self-doubt has yielded to blind pride. 4.“American industry has changed its structure, has gone on a diet, has learnt to be more quick-witted,” according to Richard Cavanagh, executive dean of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.5. “It makes me proud to be an American just to see how our businesses are improving their productivity,” says Stephen Moore of the Cato Institute, a think-tank in Washington, DC. 6.And William Sahlman of the Harvard Business School believes that people will look back on this period as “a golden age of business management in the United States.”

1.How things have changed! In 1995 the United States can look back on five years of solid growth while Japan has been struggling. 2.Few Americans attribute this solely to such obvious causes as a devalued dollar or the turning of the business cycle3.Self-doubt has yielded to blind pride.

1) a devalued dollar

2) the turning of the business cycle

The author seems to believe the revival of the U.S. economy in the 1990s can be attributed to the ________.

[A] turning of the business cycle

Some studies show that choosing vegetarian options would only reduce greenhouse gas emissions per person by 3%. Others show a reduction in emissions per person of 20-30%.“Probably the most important thing to point out is that emissions are often viewed as the only metric of sustainability: they are not. Impacts of farming systems on carbon sequestration, water quality, and broader ecosystem services also need to be well considered,” said Matthew Harrison.

Which of the following is true according to the text?

A.Some believe going vegan do not reduce emissions.

B.Sustainability can be measured only by emissions.

C.Matthew Harrison is fighting against vegan diet.

D.The literature on the impact of going vegan varies.

Some studies show that choosing vegetarian options would only reduce greenhouse gas emissions(宾语从句) per person by 3%(状语).

Others show a reduction in emissions per person of 20-30%.(宾语)

“Probably the most important thing to point out is that emissions are often viewed as the only metric of sustainability: they are not. Impacts of farming systems on carbon sequestration, water quality, and broader ecosystem services also need to be well considered,” said Matthew Harrison.

A.Some believe going vegan do not reduce emissions.

B. Sustainability can be measured only by emissions.

C. Matthew Harrison is fighting against vegan diet.

D. The literature on the impact of going vegan varies.
