方式状语从句用来表示主句谓语动作发生的方式,通常由as、(just) as…so…、as if、as though等引导。
(一)as
But Americans still talk about 'fall' just as people do in some parts of western England.
As is known to all, black powder was first invented in China.
此时的as,与“in the way+从句”的用法类似。如:
Do you work in the way I have shown you?
He can only do his homework in the way I told him.
以上两句中的in the way都可以换作as,即:
Do you work as I have shown you?
He can only do his homework as I told him.
(二)(just) as…, so…
“(just) as…, so…”
Just as you hate Mr Green, so I dislike his wife.
Just as you would not, so neither would they.
(三)as if/as though
I felt as if my heart would burst with joy.
She looks as if nothing had happened to her.
She dolled herself up as though she was a girl of eighteen.
He acted this part as though he had been fainting with desire.
It seems as if he knows everything.
It looks as if it isn't clean enough to bathe here.
It looks as though you've bungled again.
The kitchen looks as though it's been repainted.
He walked along as if favoring his sore foot.
He shook his head as if to say no. (他摇摇头好象在说不。)
The paper turned green as if by magic.
He raised his hand as though to take off his hat.
She smiled, as though solaced by the memory.
She looked anxious as though (she was) in trouble.
(四)the way
It's a crime the way he bullies his children.
He's always knocking the way I do things.
