英语语用文化系列22：有关 “樱桃”的习语（cherry idioms）
【本期内容】
樱桃，原产于热带美洲西印度群岛加勒比海地区，因此又叫西印度樱桃。适合在雨量充沛、日照充足、温度适宜的热带及亚热带地区生长，以富含维生素C而闻名于世，果实可以作为水果食用，外表色泽鲜艳、晶莹美丽、红如玛瑙，黄如凝脂，果实富含糖、蛋白质、维生素及钙、铁、磷、钾等多种元素，是世界公认的“天然VC之王”和“生命之果”。
本期就让我们继续跟着上海时学教育的钟老师，一起来学习有关樱桃（cherries）的常用英语习语吧。
1) a bite at the cherry
【含义来源】在这里表示“机会，机遇”。在谈论到机会时，我们经常会想到chance、opportunity这两个词。该短语还有变形说法：another bite at the cherry， 表示“又一次机会”。
【例句】
They all wanted a bite of the cherry. 他们都想要得到机会。 She failed the maths exam, but the teacher decided to give her another bite the cherry by allowing to take the test again. 她的数学考试不及格，但是老师决定再给她一次机会补考一次。
2） a bowl of cherries
【含义来源】我们不能直接翻译成 “一碗樱桃” ，其正确的意思为 “美好的事，乐事。”
【例句】
Life isn't always a bowl of cherries. 生活不总是是美好了。 He got a fat pay raise! Life is just a bowl of cherries now! 我工资加了一大截！现在的生活真是太美好了！
3）cherry-pick
【含义来源】大家在买水果、挑选商品时当然要精挑细选了。 cherry-pick就表示 ”精挑细选、择优选择“。
【例句】
I can't believe he cherry-picked the best employee in my department! 我不敢相信他在我的部门里挑选了最好的员工! You will get to cherry-pick the books for children. 你要给孩子们精心挑选书本。
4）the cherry on the cake
【含义来源】字面意思“蛋糕上的樱桃”，其真正意思为“锦上添花之物”。
【例句】
Sarah really wanted that job, so she said the signing bonus was really just the cherry on the cake. 莎拉真的很想得到那份工作，所以她说签约奖金真是锦上添花。 We won the match that was the cherry on the cake.
我们赢了比赛，真可谓锦上添花啊。
