直到完成了工程，他们才回家。

38. so改成that。it is not until…that…是固定用法，意为“直到……才”，其中的that在任何情况下都不变。

例句：It is not until then that Mr Li realizes the importance of health.

直到那时，李先生才意识到了健康的重要性。

结构分析：

It是主语，is是系动词，not until引导状语从句，they是主语，had finished是谓语，the project是宾语，that引导表语从句，they是主语，returned是谓语，home是状语。
