Screening events on “Teachers of Art” Series, New York City
“艺术的老师”是艺术家静远2017年开始长期的项目,它包含记录,收集,研究,讨论,合作创作等工作方式。主要以“审美资源”的形成、传播、使用作为线索,考察和再现个体和所在“社会契约”的关系。最近这个系列里的两部片子将在纽约的两个场合放映。
The first two films from “Teachers of Art” series will be screened in New York City.
“Teachers of Art” is an ongoing long-term project of Jing Y since 2017. It takes the “Aesthetic Resource”, its formation, dissemination, and application, as the vector to examines “social contract” in every chosen particular setting. By focusing on those access toand value of art that rarely filmed and bringing them into critical discourse, she implies, and tries to invent a new way of associating autonomy with everyday life of individual in our society.
第一场放映:《渠道》。它由五个在广州生活的热爱艺术的母亲的故事构成。这场放映由位于中国城的艺术空间“Assembly Room”组织,对谈人是Robert Lee (Executive Director of Asian American Arts Centre)。活动时间是11月24日下午两点(详情请看海报)。
The first screening event is organized by Assembly Room and will take place on November 24, 2 pm at their gallery space. It will introduce “Solutions”, a 31 minutes’ film comprised of five short stories of five mothers who live in Guangzhou, China. Different in age, profession, and life trajectory, they share one thing in common: their love of art and family. Cruising through professional and amateur, the film explores questions, such as, if an urban mother wants to be an artist, what kind of possibilities does she have and how does her desire change the people around here? “Solutions” is the first film in her “Teachers of Art” series.
This screening is followed by conversation between Jing Y. and Robert Lee, Executive Director of Asian American Arts Centre.
第二场放映:《四城之约》。主要拍的是一位生活在西北的高考唐卡培训老师和他的朋友。这场放映由哥伦比亚大学东亚系组织,对谈人包括纽约大学教授Lily Chumley(“ Creativity Class: Art School and Culture Work in Postsocialist China”一书的作者), Tenzin Yewong Dongchung,还有活动组织者江萌。活动时间是11月26日下午两点(详情请看海报)。
The second screening event will take place Columbia University Tuesday, November 26, 2:00 pm. It will introduce “The Social Contract: Shida in Four Cities”, a travelogue centering Shida, the founding teacher of the first Thangka (a Tibetan Buddhist painting) training class in a test prep school for college art entrance exams in China’s increasingly urbanized Northwestern Region. This is the second film in her “Teachers of Art” series.
This screening will open with a brief sharing section of manuscripts and texts from the region, followed by a conversation among Jing Y. Ng, Professor Lily Chumley, and Tenzin Yewong Dongchung. The conversation will be moderated by Zoe Meng Jiang.
艺术家简介:
静远,1979年生于广西。2006年本科毕业于康考迪亚大学艺术系,2008年毕业于芝加哥艺术学院,获得艺术硕士学位。目前工作生活于北京。她的作品试图反映中国社会内部以及在和外部对话时产生的各种(自我)矛盾和(自我)隔离。
Aritst Bio:
Born in 1979, Guangxi, Jing received a BFA from Concordia University (Montreal) in 2005 and a MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2008.
Since returning to China in 2010, Her work has focused on the contradictions and disconnections within Chinese society, and between China and the world. Working closely with Chinese citizens who usually are not professional writers, Jing Y. founded “Writing · Mothers” project, and has since co-produced several books of their memoirs, reflections, debates, and statements. Her films, publications, and installations embody her method of “using art and documentary approaches to create self-made citizenship” in a period of political difficulty.
