When did you first start making GIFs? What was the first GIF you made?
I started making animated GIFs 4 years ago, I think.
What attracts you to the GIF format?
I like the mesmerizing effect it creates. You can stare at a GIF for a very long time without even realizing it. It also allows you to add an element of surprise to your drawings.
Where do you find inspiration? Do you have a favorite subject you like to illustrate?
I spend way too much time on Pinterest. I really like the idea of people creating and sharing things with no commercial goal, just for the kick of it. I think my favourite subjects are still people, because most of them just seem odd to me.
What kind of a process do you go through to create your art?
Each one of my GIFs is linked to something that happened in my life that I didn’t understand, flabbergasted me or at least caught enough of my attention to make me think about it. I like to think they’re all part of a therapy. And just like a therapy, they take a lot of time to make as I like to do them frame by frame, the old fashion way.
Who are a few of your favorite artists?
I am a big fan of petra mrzyk et jean francois moriceau, especially what they have done with that song by Air, Don’t be Light. I recently discovered Uno Moralez, and I really like how he turned pixel art into something almost mystical and a bit creepy. About pixel art; I don’t know if it’s because I used to be addicted to Tetris and all those classic game boy games but I really like to spend what feels like millions of years building cities pixel by pixel. It must also be part of my therapy…
Any fun projects you are currently working on and can share with us?
I would like to create a template to be able to build gif with multiple layers. If any developers are reading this…
I am also very interested in the animation made with code, like the svg animated format which sounds like heaps of fun to explore.
