Malunion
Varus and rotational malunions are fairly common. This can be prevented by careful attention to accurate reduction before internal fixation is applied. If the degree of malunion produces symptoms, it may need operative correction.
Non-union
This occurs in about 5 per cent of cases; it will require operative correction of any deformity, renewed fixation and bone grafting.
