红灯是red light，黄灯为啥不是yellow light？

生活在国外的人应该都知道交通信号灯叫“Traffic Light”或是“Traffic Signal”。

交通规则

red for stop and green for go

红灯停，绿灯行

Cross the street when the traffic light turns green.

当信号灯变绿的时候过马路。

我们中文里面会说“一路绿灯”

表示一切顺利

在英语里面也有这层意思

我们永远不会给赌博开绿灯。

我们知道红灯是“Red Light”、绿灯是“Green Light”，那么黄灯难道就是“Yellow Light”吗？

其实Yellow Light这种说法也是可以的，只不过黄色信号灯还有一个很地道的表达....

Amber是“琥珀”、“琥珀色”的意思，信号灯中的黄灯亮起来的时候就有点像琥珀，由此得名。

A flashing amber light means you may move forward with caution. 你可以小心前行。
