Pass到底是“通过”还是“不通过”？

在朗文字典里，Pass作不及物动词时，除了有“通过”的意思以外，还有“不接受；跳过”的意思，所以，“I'll pass”也就是'我不要；跳过'的意思了。

例句：

You can join us if you like.

如果喜欢，你可以加入我们。

I'll pass, thanks.

我不去了，谢谢。

I think I'll pass on the swimming.

我想我不会去游泳。

Pass做及物动词，后面接具体内容，就只有“通过”的意思，例如：通过考试 Pass the exam。

例句：

I passed the interview, and got the job.

我通过面试，而且我被录取了。

They can't pass this law. It's not constitutional.

他们无法通过这项法律，它不符合宪法。

“Pass”既有“通过”，也有“不通过”的意思，所以，我们不推荐“某人面试被Pass掉了”这种说法。虽然在中文语境里，这样的“散装英语”可以接受，表示“面试被刷”，但是很容易造成误解到底有没有过。

“Pass”的其它用法

Pass 作为名词时，还有“通行证”的意思，除此之外，我们常说的年票，也不能用Ticket，而需要使用 Pass。例如：

年票：Yearly/one-year passes

月票：Monthly pass
