7 Small Towns In Washington That Are Full Of Charm And Perfect For A Weekend Escape
We live in a big, beautiful world (and a big, beautiful country), and it’s important to explore as much of it as you’re able to. That being said, we happen to live in a pretty fantastic state, and it’s also important to take advantage of that.
While our popular tourist towns like Leavenworth and Lake Chelan are wonderful, there’s something to be said for going off the beaten path and spending a weekend exploring a quiet town that eases your mind and reminds you of how lucky we really are to call Washington home. We highly recommend starting with one of these spots.

Port Townsend is a town that almost everyone in Washington knows about. But because of its remote location the tip of the Olympic Peninsula, it's not easily accessible for most Washingtonians. But our Victorian village is a place everyone should see. Not only is it full of delicious dining, Victorian buildings, boutiques, theaters, and bars, it's brimming with local history and a unique character.
Roslyn was once known for being the location where the quirky 90s show Northern Exposure was filmed. Of course, the area's history goes back much, much further, and walking around this slow-paced historic town feels like stepping back in time. Book a stay at Hotel Roslyn, enjoy a meal at The Brick, and go for a tasting at Heritage Distilling.
We are so lucky to have such a beautiful island a short ferry ride away. But while Bainbridge, Whidbey, and the San Juans stay busy and bustling, you can catch a ferry from West Seattle to Vashon Island and spend a quiet, relaxing weekend on the beach with the locals. Yes, we know this is technically not a town, however, we think it should be added to the list anyway!
If you've never driven along the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge, make this the year you make that magical road trip. There are several charming little towns along the highway but Stevenson, in particular, has shops, tasty restaurants, and breweries right on the Columbia. Pamper yourself with a stay at the luxurious Skamania Lodge.
If you've ever been to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, you've probably spent some time in La Conner. But it's actually a perfect place to spend a nice, relaxing weekend. For a small town, there are a lot of fantastic restaurants here, not to mention the museums, antique shops, and wine tasting on patios overlooking the Swinomish Channel.
All it takes is one visit to Washington's favorite Old West town to fall in love with it. The Methow Valley is incredibly scenic, and there's enough year-round outdoor recreation to keep you busy in the best way. Of course, relaxing on the patio of the Old Schoolhouse Brewery is an equally wonderful way to pass the time.
While you've no doubt heard of our favorite wine city, Walla Walla, plenty of Washingtonians are unaware of the neighboring town of Dayton. This tiny town is absolutely beautiful, and it's full of historic buildings like this Historic Depot. Book a stay at the Weinhard Hotel, a Victorian-era gem, and spend the weekend exploring.
