The Wall Street Journal/华尔街日报:

The Leonardo da Vinci painting acquired for $450.3 million by Saudi Arabia’s crown prince will be displayed at the Louvre Abu Dhabi museum—a gift from Saudi Arabia to the United Arab Emirates, said a person with direct knowledge of the matter.

Saudi officials and the Louvre Abu Dhabi on Friday confirmed that “Salvator Mundi” would go to the museum, bringing to a close weeks of speculation about the work’s final destination.

Gaining a masterpiece like “Salvator Mundi” solidifies the art credentials of the U.A.E., which has been vying to become the Gulf region’s heavyweight art buyer. The oil-rich government formed a partnership with the Louvre Museum in Paris to open a museum on a man-made island in the Arab country’s capital last month, and plans to build a suite of additional museums on its Saadiyat Island as part of a larger goal to become a cultural destination.
