A lot of artists don’t consider themselves dark so I try not to label it,
Dark art provides both artists and viewers an opportunity to explore themes that many of us find uncomfortable: fear, isolation, anxiety, and vulnerability. For some this uneasiness is preferably avoided, yet there are many instances over the centuries which example humanity’s lust for the darker underbelly of reality. Religion, myths, exploring the human psyche… we’ve all experienced artwork triggering these paradoxical feelings, and the rise of this type of art – most often described as Dark Art – has only been growing.
