越野滑雪起源于北欧（cross-country skiing originated in northern Europe），又叫“北欧滑雪”。它是借助滑雪用具，运用登山、滑降、转弯、滑行等基本技术（with the help of ski tools, cross-country skiing uses basic techniques such as climbing, skiing, turning and sliding,et ），滑行于山丘雪原的运动项目（a sport that slides in the mountains and snow fields）。

例：Cross-country skiing is a popular winter sport in Vancouver。

自由式滑雪

freestyle skiing 

自由式滑雪（freestyle skiing）），是以滑雪板和滑雪杖为工具（use ski and poles as tools），在专门的滑雪场上，通过完成一系列的规定和自选动作而进行的一种雪上竞技项目（freestyle skiing is a kind of snow sports event which is carried out by completing a series of regulations and optional movements on a special ski field）。

例：Freestyle skiing moguls carried out late in China , but it develops very soon.

自由式滑雪雪上技巧项目在我国开展得较晚，但发展速度很快。

Freestyle skiing includes two main events : moguls and aerials.

自由式滑雪包含两个主要项目：雪上特技和空中特技。

跳台滑雪

     ski jumping     

跳台滑雪起源于19世纪的挪威（ski jumping originated in Norway in the 19th century），它是以滑雪板为工具（take ski as the tool），在专设的跳台上（on the specially designed platform），通过助滑道获得高速（get high speed through the slide way），腾空而起，落在跳台前方的雪地上（rise from the air and fall on the snow in front of the platform）。

例：You can't try ski jumping before you learn to ski.
