“牛年”的英文怎么说？“生肖”的英语怎么说？

还有几天就是农历新年了，牛年到来之际，我们都知道“牛”的英文名是 cow，那“牛年”用英语怎么说呢？

cow year？千万不要这么说！

牛年

牛年：Year of the Ox

牛年呢，最基本的英语表述是：“Year of the Ox”，对牛的总称是 cattle 或是 ox，用ox这种总称一般不会闹出笑话。

因为英语里对于不同的牛是有不同的说法的：公牛的英文是 bull，母牛则叫 cow，小母牛是heifer，小牛或牛犊叫calf，小阉牛为 bullock 或 steer，水牛是 buffalo。

如果把牛年翻译成“Year of the Cow”或是“Year of the Bull”，这样牛年就成了母牛年或公牛年了。所以，翻译成“Year of the Ox”应当说不会引起歧异。

生肖

生肖/ 属相 —— Chinese zodiac

zodiac可以指西方的“星座”，前面加上Chinese，就可以指中国的生肖了。

例句：

可以说成：

My zodiac animal is ……

My animal sign is ……

例句：

I was born in/ under the Year of the Rabbit.

我属兔。

My zodiac animal is Rooster.

我属鸡。

My animal sign is ox.

我属牛。

当询问个人的属相时，通常会说：

What animal sign were you born under?

可以回答说：

My Chinese zodiac sign is the Sheep.

或者说

I was born in the year of the Sheep.

本命年

“本命年”怎么说？

在英语里，“本命年” 的地道说法是year of fate或者animal year，所以“今年是我的本命年”用英语来说就是:

This year is my year of fate.

This year is my animal year.

本命年中国人会在身上穿红色、戴红色的东西比如：

红腰带 red belt；

红袜子 red socks；
