1.Preparation before loading
1) Prepare pre-loading plan and loading sequence taking into account longitudinal stress
2) Clean bilge well and make sure bilge piping system is functional, the bilge well cover shall be wrapped with burlap.
3) Check all pipes in cargo hold to ensure no leakage.
4) Check double bottom tank and topside wing tank to ensure no leakage.
5) Check hatch cover to ensure watertight.
6) Check manhole and small hatch cover to ensure watertight.
7) Ask shipper to provide shipper declaration before loading, information of TML and moisture contents should be provided.


1) Loading operation is not allowed in raining or snow weather condition.
2) Loading cargo and de-ballast water as per loading sequence.
3) Keep vessel upright as possible as you can, the list angle shall not excess 3 degrees.
4) Duty office is required to supervise when barge coming alongside, report to C/O without delay if any damage or deformation to ship hull was found.
5) This cargo shall be trimmed to ensure that the height difference between peaks and troughs doesnot exceed 5% of the ship’s breadth and that the cargo slopes uniformly from the hatch boundaries to the bulkheads and no shearing faces remain to collapse during voyage.
6) As the density of the cargo is extremely high, the tanktop may be overstressed unless the cargo isevenly spread across the tanktop to equalize the weight distribution. Due consideration shall bepaid to ensure that the tanktop is not overstressedduring loading cargo
7) The cargo shall only be accepted for loading when the actual moisture content of the cargo is less than its TML,thus if there’s any doubt during loading, the moisture contents must be tested.
CAN TEST:

A
Half fill a cylindrical can or similar container (0.5 to 1 litre capacity) with asample of thematerial. Take the can in one hand and bring it down sharply to strike a hard surface such as asolid table from a height of about 0.2 m. Repeat the procedure 25 times at one or two secondintervals. Examine the surface for free moisture or fluid conditions. If free moisture or a fluidcondition appears, arrangements should be made to have additional laboratory tests conducted onthe material before it is accepted for loading.”

Half fill a can or a similar container with a sample of the material, sway the can to & fro around 5 minutes, if free moisture or fluid condition appears, it means that moisture content would be beyond TML.”
8) Clean hatch coaming & secure hatch cover before departure and ensure watertightness.
9) Due to moisture contents contained in cargo, the mate’s receipt can be marked“ ship owner shall not responsible for the cargo weight because bilge water shall be pumped out during sea passge”.


3.Caution during sea passage
1)Discuss with C/E on consumption of fuel oil and fresh water in order to reduce adverse affection on stability caused by this consumption.
2)Sound bilge well in cargo hold at least 2 times every day, pump out the water if water was sounded in order to reduce free surface.
3)Keep record for the water pumped out, and show the record to draft surveyor at discharging port.
4)Receive weather analysis map and weather forecast map every day, keep contact with weather routing service company and ask for their advice if this service has been arranged by owner or charterer. Adjust route to keep well clear of heavy weather, if it’s not possible, keep the vessel heave to wind & swell to reduce ponding & slamming
5)Check vessel rolling period during sea passage, take action as early as possible if GM become worse. Ballast double bottom tank to improve GM if the draft does not reach the load line mark.
6)If the vessel is listed to one side with unknown reason, try to investigate the cause and report to company and ask for advice. Do not counter-ballast if the cause is still unknown. If the vessel can’t resume upright and the condition becomes worse, seek refuge port and anchorage in vicinity.

4. Caution in discharging port
1)Prepare discharging sequence before arrival.
2)Submit the bilge water pump out log to draft surveyor.
