At least 18 migrant workers died after a truck crashed into their bus in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
Some of the workers were still in the bus while others were sleeping next to it when the accident happened in the early hours of Wednesday.
Police told the BBC that the bus was "overloaded beyond its capacity".
Yamuna Prasad, superintendent of police in Barabanki, said some of the passengers decided to sleep next to the bus while the driver looked for a mechanic to fix the vehicle.
"It's an unfortunate incident. The bus probably broke down because it had about 140 passengers when its capacity was just 65. We are assisting the families," he said. BBC

KATHMANDU: Nepal on Tuesday has confirmed infection of a new mutant of Covid-19's Delta variant as the cases continues to rise with the relaxation of prohibitory orders.
Nepal's ministry of health and population confirmed the presence of Kappa variant (B.1.617.1), a variant of interest amongst others. The Himalayan nation already has reported cases of Alta and Delta variants.
"All 47 samples tested recently were confirmed to be Delta variant. However, three of them are found to be new mutant known as K417N of the Delta variant," the ministry said in a release. TOI
