英语中那些“表面肯定，实际否定”的表达 | 语法解密

英语写作中，当你想表达“否定”的概念时，最高明的方法是不出现“not”，而是用“表明肯定、实际否定”的用法。
我给大家总结了如下几条：
1. hardly, rarely
*解析：这两个副词表示“几乎不”，可以通用。hardly和hard不要搞混，后者表示“努力”的意思。
*例句：
1) I hardly understand this book.
我几乎看不懂这本书。
2) Extreme temperatures in this area was rarely recorded in history.
历史上这个地方没有出现过极端气温。
2. far from
*解析：表面意思是“远离...”，在写作中常常表达“远远没有”的意思。
*例句：
1) The quality of the goods is far from my expectation.
产品的质量远远没有达到我的预期。
2) A majority of people in the world is far from living a life with health and dignity.
这个世界上很多人远远没有过上一个健康、有尊严的生活。
3. rather than, instead of
*解析：这两个词组的意思是“而不是”，通常是否定后面所跟的名词，insteed of 暗含“替代”的意思。
*例句：
1) What we need is dignity, rather than money.
我们需要的是尊严，而不是钱。
2) The way of education has shifted to quality-oriented instead of exam-oriented.
教育方式已经切换到了素质教育为导向，而不是以考试为导向。
4. keep...from.../ keep from
*解析：前者的意思是“使...远离...”，后者是“抑制、避免”的意思。
*例句：
1) Good education keeps young people from unhealthy information.
好的教育可以防止年轻人接触到不良信息。
2) This policy can effectively keeps from a soar in price of housing.
这项政策可以有效防止房价飞涨。
5. fail to
*解析：失败于做某事，未能做某事
*例句：
1) People still fail to find effective solution to cure cancer.
人们还是无法找到治疗癌症的有效手段。
2) One is unlikely to be successful if he fails to take others' criticism.
一个人如不能接受他人的批评，是不大会成功的。
6. too...to...
*解析：这是一个著名的表达，表示“太...以至于不能...”
*例句：
1) My sister is too young to go to school.
我的妹妹年纪太小以至于不能上学。
2) Life is too short to be taken seriously.
生命太短暂了以至于不能严肃对待。（生命苦短、及时行乐）
7. used to
*解析：过去常常做某事..., 也就意味着现在不这样了，通过对比体现出“否定”。
*例句：
1) This river used to be clean and clear.
这条河过去很清澈。（意味着现在不清澈了）
2) Nokia used to be a dominant company in communication industry.
诺基亚曾经是通讯行业里的龙头老大。
8. find it hard to
*解析：发现做某事很难，就是不能成功地去做某事的意思。
*例句：
1) I find it hard to accept his theory.
我无法接受他的理论。
2) You may find it hard to think of words to describe the beauty of the lakeonce you see it by your own eyes.
当你亲眼看到它的时候，你会无法找到词汇去形容这片湖水的美。
