A list of the world's most beautiful bookstore isn't complete without mentioning Livraria Lello in Portugal. The historical bookstore is a rumoured inspiration for Harry Potter as J.K. Rowling frequented the bookstore when she lived in the city from 1991–1993.

Located in Porto, a coastal city that features cobblestone streets and a medieval centre, Livraria Lello's neo-Gothic building leaves many in awe. The stained-glass ceiling, ornate wood carvings, ladders and rails certainly look like it's straight out of a scene from Harry Potter.

Formerly a performing arts theatre, then a cinema and now transformed into a bookstore, El Ateneo Grand Splendid has a long history since its inception in 1919. Proving itself deserving of such a grand title, this bookstore retains the original frescoed ceiling, theatre boxes, balconies, ornate trimmings and red stage curtains during its days as a theatre and cinema. 6/10 Leakey's Bookshop in Inverness, Scotland

Leakey's Bookshop in Inverness is a literary lover's haven. Once a Gaelic church in Scotland, the bookstore is now filled with almost 100,000 books with much of the original church's framework still intact. An additional iron spiral staircase was constructed to connect the second floor of the bookstore.

Apart from the books, patrons visit often for its antique prints and maps located on the second floor. A variety of books on Scottish history, novels and poetry are also housed here. On a cold day, you can take shelter next to the open log fire with a book at hand.

10/10 Seoul Book Bogo, South Korea

If you're a K-drama fan, you might recognise Seoul Book Bogo from the hit drama, Hotel Del Luna. Previously a warehouse, now converted into a bookstore, Seoul Book Dogo also just opened its doors in 2019 to become Seoul's first second-hand bookstore.

In fact, the Seoul Metropolitan Government revamped the space to specifically house second-hand books from other old bookstores in the city. Other than being a treasure trove full of used books, you can also find titles that you can't easily get elsewhere such as those by independent publishers and personal collections donated by celebrities.
