“下下周”千万不要翻译成 ''next next week''！

吉米老师前言：时间的表达是英语中的一个难点，比如下下周的英文就有很多人说错了，今天一起和老师学习地道英文表达吧。
实用口语表达
the week after next 下下周
the week after next 下下周
the day after tomorrow 后天
后天是明天的后一天，明天是 tomorrow，后天也就是 the day after tomorrow.
下下周也是同样的道理，我们也要翻译为下周的后一周，next next week 不符合英语的语法习惯，是中式英语。
next 指的是 next week，week一般会省略，而 after 表示在……之后，所以 the week after next 就是下一周的后一周，那可不就是下下周嘛。
Monday after next 下下个周一
the month after next 下下个月
下下个周一也可以说 Monday after next，下下个月就是 the month after next.
She will be on a business trip
the week after next.
她下下周要去出差。
in three weeks 下下下周
in five minutes 五分钟后
within five minutes 五分钟内
in 后接时间通常指一段时间之后， in five minutes 不是五分钟内，而是五分钟后，下下下周就是三个礼拜后，所以也可以用 in three weeks 表示。
the week before last 上上周
the day before yesterday前天
the week before last上上周
要想掌握一门语言，一定要学会举一反三。如果你学会了下下周，就应该猜得出上上周的英文说法。
上上周要翻译为上周的前一周，before 是在……之前，last 是上一个的，上上周就是 the week before last，前天也就是 the day before yesterday.
He borrowed 5000 yuan
from friends the week before last,
but he has not paid off his debts.
他上上周问朋友借了5000块，但现在还没有还清。
the boy next door 真的是隔壁男孩吗？
the boy/girl next door 普通人；平凡的人
next door 的意思是隔壁邻居，所以 the boy next door 老是被翻译为邻家男孩，但这么理解是错的。
我们的邻居大都是普通人，the boy next door 也就是普普通通的男孩，the girl next door 就是平凡的女孩。
Many people think Mark
is just the boy next door,
but he was born with
a silver spoon in his mouth.
很多人以为马克只是个普通人，
但他是个富二代。
a month of Sundays ≠一个月的星期天
a month of Sundays 很久
not a month of Sundays 遥遥无期；不可能
month 差不多有30天，a month of Sundays 也就是30个周日，30个礼拜也是大半年的时间，所以 a month of Sundays 的意思是很久以后，常形容时间漫长。
在英语里，这个短语的否定形式 not in a month of Sundays 出现得更多，意思是某件事你再等多久都不会发生了，强调一件事情发生的可能性极低。
Jerry won't return to England
in a month of Sundays,
he is going to immigrate to Australia.
杰瑞不会回英国了，
他要移民澳大利亚了。
倒数第二别说 last second
倒数第二
the last but one
the next to last
the second to last
因为倒数第二紧挨着倒数第一，next 又表示紧随其后的，last 是最后的，所以倒数第二可以说 the next to last.
除此之外，the second to last 和 the last but one 也是倒数第二。
the second to last 可以这么理解：
从后往前算的话，这是第二个，也就是倒数第二。倒数第三就是 the third to last，倒数第四就是 the fourth to last.
the last but one 可以这么理解：
要是没有另一个，这个就是倒数第一了，所以这个应该是倒数第二。
I was the last but one in this marathon.
这次的马拉松比赛我跑了倒数第二。
