get rid of sb/sth=摆脱某人, 扔掉某物
We got rid of all the old furniture.(我们把所有的旧家具都扔掉了)
I’m sure he knew we were trying to get rid of him!(我确定他知道我们在试图摆脱他)
boys在这里也可以替换为guys/men

outnumber=人数上超过对方
The demonstrators were heavily outnumbered by the police.(游行的人数被警察人数超出了)
In this profession, women outnumber men by two to one(干这一行的, 女性的人数是男性的人数的2倍)
outnumber=out+number, 类似的比如outsmart表示比…更聪明.

make for=有助于, 导致
Constant arguing doesn’t make for a happy marriage.(总是争吵并不能有助于一个幸福的婚姻)
The new computers make for much greater productivity.(新的电脑有助于更高的生产力)
“导致”听起来含贬义, 其实make for并没有贬义, 它的意思更接近于result in, 结果是…
这句中的stupid可以换成stupidity, 从语法上我觉得也是stupidity更佳
