感恩节为什么要吃火鸡呢?火鸡身世大揭秘!

火鸡是美洲特产,在欧洲人到美洲之前就已经被印地安人驯化。火鸡的英文是“Turkey(土耳其)”,因为欧洲人觉得它身黑头红(黑色羽毛的火鸡),很像土耳其服装。

烤火鸡变成美国人重要的节日大菜已经有三百多年历史了。不过,据说当年来到美国的欧洲移民本来是想在过节时烤鹅来吃的,只可惜北美大陆上鹅的数量不多,很难找到,而火鸡却漫山遍野到处都是,于是就把烤鹅改成烤火鸡了。这种风俗延续了下来,圣诞节和感恩节大餐都要吃烤火鸡。

火鸡体形大、生长迅速、抗病性强、瘦肉率高,被誉为“造肉机器”。火鸡肉不仅肉质细嫩、清淡,而且蛋白质含量丰富,胆固醇低、脂肪少,富含多种氨基酸,特别是蛋氨酸和赖氨酸都高于其它肉禽,维生素E和B族维生素也含量丰富,具有提高人体免疫力和抗衰老等神奇功效。
