作者：玛克斯·奥勒留（Marcus Aurelius）（公元121-180），古罗马帝国皇帝，西方历史上唯一的哲学家皇帝。

译者：梁实秋（1903-1987），二十世纪中国最重要的文学评论家、散文家、翻译家，世界上完整翻译《莎士比亚全集》（40个剧本）的第一人。
《沉思录》是梁实秋1958年完成的重要译著，也是华语世界最早的《沉思录》经典版本，被他认为“平生翻译以此书最为吃力，亦以此书为受益最多”。

From my grandfather Verus I learned good morals and the government of my temper.

From the reputation and remembrance of my father, modesty and a manly character.
从别人对我父亲的称赞和我自己对他的回忆中，我学习了谦逊和勇敢。
From my mother, piety and beneficence, and abstinence, not only from evil deeds, but even from evil thoughts; and further, simplicity in my way of living, far removed from the habits of the rich.
